Ballroom dancing is so much fun – and so good for you.
Long before smartphones and live streaming, Saturday night dances in rural Victoria were, for many young people, the highlight of each week. These weren’t just social events; they were lifelines.
Fast forward to the present day — a strong network of old-time dance events are still being held regularly throughout Central Victoria, attended by enthusiasts who travel far and wide to get their ‘fix’. These popular events provide uplifting music, low-impact exercise, human connection and delightful country suppers.
Karen Jones, originally from Bendigo but recently retired from Coober Pedy, was searching for ways to put her skill set to good use in the community. After hearing about the vibrant and talented community of Newstead — and the beautiful Newstead Community Hall — she also learned about the awards earned by members of the Newstead CFA.
So Karen set her sights on running an old-time dance as a fundraising event for Newstead CFA, to upgrade and maintain firefighting equipment.
So pull out your best ‘duds’, doll yourself up a bit and join us for an entertaining night of waltzes and good old community spirit. Wouldn’t it be great if this became the first of many regular dances at Newstead Community Hall!
